Why don’t cell phone manufacturers sell direct to the public?
I am really tired of having to either “re-up” my contract or pay a ridiculously high price every time I want to purchase a new cell phone. With the new 2 year contract deals, one cell phone will certainly not last that long. I recently read an article that said that in other countries outside the US, cell phone users often have more than one phone style very much like an accessory. So, I would like to buy a cell phones on a purely retail basis without being forced into some extended plan or paying inflated prices. Besides that, I like the idea of accessorizing.
You can buy a cell phone direct from most manufacturers and not touch your contract at all. I know Motorola lets you buy the cell phone without service. You can call them up or go to their website! I bought my Razr directly from them. All you have to really do is tell them which cell carrier you have and they will send you a new one that is programmed for that company. You didn’t mention the country you are from so i listed the US site in the sources box.
